Nokia 5230 VS Nokia 5800 Yet another comparison



This article presents the similarities and differences of the two mobile phones Nokia 5230 and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The Nokia 5230 is a GSM Technology phone announced in 2009, August while the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is also a GSM Technology phone announced in 2008, October. The Nokia 5230 is a relatively newer model than the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. But both these phones were announced around the same period within a gap of about 10 months.

The main differences between these two items are that, the XpressMusic contains Secondary Camera which is not present in 5230. Both of them contain Audio Player, Video Player, Camera, Bluetooth, Speakerphone, Touchscreen, GPS, FM Radio, GPRS and 3G. The XpressMusic is a lighter and smaller device than 5230.

Let us now compare the features of these devices in more detail.


Connectivity and communication

5230 lacks WLAN, whereas, XpressMusic contains these features. WLANs use radio technology instead of cabling. Currently only capable of delivering speeds of 1-15Mbps, but are still under development. The XpressMusic provides WiFi 802.11 b g, UPnP technology WLAN. The XpressMusic provides SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messaging and the 5230 provides SMS, MMS, Email, IM Messaging. MMS allows wireless customers to send and receive messages that contain much more than text including formatted text, graphics, photographs, and audio and video clips. The multimedia messaging service helps the user in sending multimedia messages that contains text and sound with a photo or video. The XpressMusic has with A-GPS support and Nokia Maps 2.0 Touch. The 5230 has with A-GPS support and Nokia Maps 2.0 Touch. GPS is Global Positioning System: a navigational system involving satellites and computers that can determine the latitude and longitude of a receiver. GPS is useful for adventurous people on the move in remote places like hikers and campers. The XpressMusic has got WAP 2.0 xHTML, HTML, RSS feeds Browser whereas the 5230 has got WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML, RSS feeds Browser. (Wireless Application Protocol) Is a technology that enables cellphone users to look at specially converted web pages which may have lesser GUI elements than HTML.


Multimedia

5230 does not contain Secondary Camera, whereas, XpressMusic has got these features. The second camera helps one to click self portrait and also make video calls. The XpressMusic has Videocall camera Secondary Camera. The XpressMusic has 3.15 MP, 2048x1536 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, LED flash Camera while the 5230 has 2 MP, 1600x1200 pixels Camera. The autofocus system that automatically adjusts the lens focus according to the distance of the main object in the shot. Autofocus is useful for quick focus acquisition anytime, and especially in action photography.

The XpressMusic provides Proximity sensor for auto turnoff, Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and Handwriting recognition Display Features whereas the 5230 provides Proximity sensor for auto turn-off, Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and Handwriting recognition Display Features.


Memory and processing

The XpressMusic provides microSD (TransFlash), up to 16GB, 8GB included, Card slot. The 5230 contains microSD (TransFlash), up to 16GB Card slot. The XpressMusic contains 81 MB storage, 128 MB RAM Internal Memory whereas the 5230 contains 70 MB storage Internal Memory.


Battery

The XpressMusic offers Standard battery of type LiIon 1320 mAh(BL5J) similarly the 5230 also offers Standard battery, Li-Ion 1320 mAh(BL-5J). The XpressMusic offers Up to 8 h 45 min (2G) 5 h (3G) Battery Talk time. The 5230 possesses Up to 7 h (2G) / Up to 4 h 30 min (3G) Battery Talk time. 2G is also known as Personal Communications (PCS) or digital wireless mobile communications network. It is based on circuit-switched technology where each call requires its own cell channel. Talk time gives the maximum time that a phone can transmit on a single battery charge. 3G is a third generation (UMTS) technology using new data transmission standards and operating at a different part of the spectrum range to second generation networks. 3G helps in increasing the speed for internet browsing and downloading. The XpressMusic possesses Up to 406 h (2G) 408 h (3G) Stand-by whereas the 5230 possesses Up to 432 h (2G) / Up to 432 h (3G) Stand-by. Standby time gives the amount of time a fully charged wireless portable or transportable phone can be on before the phone's battery will lose power.

The XpressMusic has WMV RV MP4 3GP video player, MP3 WMA WAV RA AAC M4A music player, TVout, Voice command dial, Document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), T9 and Photo editor whereas the 5230 has WMV/RV/MP4/3GP video player, MP3/WMA/WAV/RA/AAC/M4A music player, Voice command/dial, Document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Photo editor and T9. 3GP is the MPEG4 based video format used mostly in mobile terminals, such as mobile phones. This file format is designed for 3rd generation cellphones. The XpressMusic offers WAP 2.0 xHTML, HTML, RSS feeds Browser. The 5230 offers WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML, RSS feeds Browser. The XpressMusic comes with with stereo speakers Speakerphone whereas the 5230 comes with Speakerphone.


Price

The Nokia 5230 costs at Rs 7,100 (approx) and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic costs at Rs 13,000 (approx) in the Indian market.
